Chapter 10

"I'm glad your mom offered to stay the night with Daniel." Richie said happily and relieved as he walked out of the hospital with Sarah. It was always hard to leave their son behind but they had started to like the idea of having Friday not to themselves and with their other children.

The entire week they had alternated staying with Daniel at night. The worryful night they spend with Daniel at the hospital was relieved by a peaceful evening at home with three teenagers, which in fact wasn't so peaceful either.

Each day Daniel was improving which was great to see. Two more weeks and he'd be allowed to go home, the couch itself wouldn't be entire gone but it wouldn't be as dangerous anymore.

"Do you have anything special planned tonight too?" Sarah asked her husband as they got into the car after saying goodbye to Daniel.
"Of course I do. We haven't had a night together in a week."
"True." Sarah agreed. "Another relaxing night with wonderful sex?"
Richie grinned. "Maybe."
Sarah smiled lovingly at him. "Sounds really good."
"I'm glad your mom offered to stay the night with Daniel. We really needed another night to ourselves."

Sarah could only agree as they got in the car to drive home.

On the way, they picked up a late dinner for everyone to share while they watched another movie. It was one of the ways they loved spending time together. The theater room was perfect for a Friday night movie.

They arrived home with the pizza, finding the house pretty quiet.

"So quiet." Sarah remarked.
Richie agreed, "That can't be any good."
"Of course it can be." Sarah continued to the kitchen to put the pizza down and look for some plates in the cupboards.
Richie followed her. "What if they're all out?" He asked, already thinking of all the possibilities that would give him.
Sarah looked over her shoulder and smiled. "Then we have the whole night to ourselves."
He definitely liked the idea of that.

Moving over to his wife, he took the plates from her and put them down, then reached back for her. He wrapped his arms around her tightly and held her for a few seconds before bending down and kissing her tenderly.

"I missed you." He said gently as he pulled away from their kiss.

As he reached back in to kiss again, his phone started ringing from his jeans pocket.

Sarah pulled away as Richie took out his phone to answer, he checked the caller ID "David" then answered the call. Interested, Sarah kept an eye on him as she went to arrange the living room instead of the theater. There still wasn't any sign of children, the living room would be more intimate with the two of them instead of the theater with large chairs and armrest keeping them from each other.

Once everything was settled on the coffee table and she had put on a romantic movie to watch, she sat down on the couch to wait for her husband to finish his call.

Only a few minutes later Richie walked into the room and sat down close next to her. "David wants to visit next week Thursday."
"Yeah?"
"Friday's the concert in Los Angeles so he'd like to see Daniel the day before to check up on him. Isn't that nice?"
"Very nice." Sarah agreed. "He'll let us know when exactly?"
"He'll phone back then." He looked at the TV and coffee table. "Ready for movie night?" Putting his arm around Sarah's shoulder, he pulled her closer as the movie started.

The evening was exactly what they wanted, privacy, the two of them cuddled together and relaxing.

When the front door opened and two teenagers walked into the house followed by a good amount of noise, it was the furthest from what they had expected to happen. They paused the movie to see Ava and Caleb get home.

"Where's Noah?" Was the first thing Sarah wanted to know.
Caleb shrugged. "In his room, I suppose. He didn't want to come."
"Come? Where did you go and why didn't you tell us?"
"We just went for dinner." Caleb defended.
Richie frowned. "And left Noah here? Without having dinner?"
"He didn't want to go." Caleb repeated.

After having found Noah up in his room, Sarah and Richie had given him the rest of their pizza before retreating to their own bedroom for some real privacy.

"I can't believe they... ditched him like that. I guess that what it would be, ditching." Sarah sighed as she followed Richie's lead and started to undress.
"I know but he's fine and has food. He's old enough to cook anyway. Don't think too much of it."
"I guess." Sarah agreed and got in bed, pulling back the sheets for her husband.
Richie smiled and got in bed, moving very close to the woman he loved. "I missed this even more."
"I bet you have." Sarah moved a hand underneath the sheets, finding the evidence of how much he had missed them being together in a bed, naked.

She wrapped her hand around him and gently started stroking his length.

"Missed that?" She asked as she leaned in to kiss his lips.
"Mmmmhmmm." Was all he could answer as he kissed her back.

A few strokes from Sarah's hand around him, had him wanting more. After a week of nothing, he was very close to the edge already.

Knowing her husband, Sarah pulled her hand away. "Ready?" She asked eagerly. She felt exactly the same as he did, she didn't want to wait any longer than she had to.

As an answer, Richie moved over her, making Sarah lay down as he moved on top of her. "Very ready." He reached down to kiss her lips and he gently moved inside her. He started thrusting slowly but couldn't keep the pace, he missed this feeling and he wanted it now, not in a few minutes.

Sarah moaned loudly as he moved faster, encouraging him even more. He loved the sounds Sarah would make during their love making, it was such a turn on to hear how much she enjoyed their intimate union.

Changing to faster thrusting movement, he didn't hold himself back any longer.

Enjoying every friction he was creating inside her body, Sarah wrapped her legs around his waist, feeling him go inside even deeper. Pulling him even closer, she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and held him very close, holding on to him with her hands and fingers.

She moaned loudly, digging her finger nails into Richie's skin, as she released with an exquisite orgasm.

The sound of Sarah's moan and the feel of her nails digging into his skin, couldn't hold Richie back, he groaned his release only a second later.

Engulfed in the wonderful feelings, there was nothing he could do.

It took almost a minute for both of them to come back down to earth.

Chapter 9

After Sarah had gone home for the evening, Richie was alone to watch over Daniel again. Of course he wasn't entirely alone. The nurses and doctors were always closeby.

He watched his preciuos son watch his stuffed sheep. It seemed to always catch Daniel's attention. The boy was always watching the stuffed white sheep.

Watching Daniel like that made Richie remembed something. He took his phone from his jeans' pocket and searched for one of the songs he knew Daniel liked best.

Once he had the song ready, he moved over to Daniel's crib. With a few clicks, he lowered the side of the bed and pulled the chair close so he could be as close as he could to Daniel.

He leaned forward but Daniel's eyes were stuck on his sheep.

"Danny?" He asked gently but no reaction. "Daniel?" He tried again.

After the fifth "Danny." Daniel finally glanced at him.

"Hey buddy." Richie smiled gently at him but when he didn't continue, Daniel's eyes turned back to the sheep he was staring at. "Alright then." Richie decided and went back to his original plan.

Pressing play on his phone, he turned up the volume a little bit and gently laid it down on the side of the mattress of Daniel's crib.

As soon as the music started, Daniel's eyes flashed to the phone. His expression changed right away but Richie didn't know what to call that expression. Daniel looked relaxed, happy and amused all at the same time but there wasn't the feigntest of a smile to be spotted on his face.

But he knew Daniel was enjoying the music.

He smiled at his little boy. "I don't know why the doctor thinks you can't hear us. You hear the music." He said gently, knowing Daniel wouldn't answer him but who else was he supposed to talk to right now?

"I love you music."

Richie looked up to the doorway, not turning off the music. Nurse Megane walked into the room.

"My music?" Richie asked confused.
"Yeah," Nurse Megane answered as she went to check Daniel's chart, "that's you singing."
"Oh yeah." Richie realized. Of course it was his singing, he knew that but he hadn't expected the nurse to recognize him.
"You're a great musician, I love your solo stuff."
"You do?" Confused that she knew his music, he didn't know what to say.

Nurse Megane smiled and continued checking on Daniel.

"How is he?" Richie asked over the music.
"He seems fine right now. How are you and Sarah doing?" She asked in return.
Richie frowned. "Us? We're fine."
She nodded. "It's very stressful to have a child that's sick, especially when he's this little." She looked up at Richie. "See, I told you, you and Sarah were meant for each other and look at this little miracle you created. I knew you'd end up together."
"Oh." He was absolutely stunned.
"You really don't remember me?" Nurse Megane asked.
"I do but we didn't know each other that well... and, you know... you..."
She nodded gently again. "Yes, I know. I'm still sorry about that. I was very crazy back then."
"Not anymore?" Richie asked intrueged.
"No. After rehab, I decided to take a break from school and well, I'm still on that break, working as a nurse now. I also met the most amazing guy."
With that Richie smiled, actually happy for her despite of what had happened years ago. "Really?"
She showed him her hand, a beautiful ring around her ring finger. "Yeah, I'm engaged now."
"Amazing." He said honestly.
"I have to get going, I have more patients to check on."
"Thanks for checking on Daniel." He turned back to watch his son enjoy the music he was listening too.

Before she left, Nurse Megane added, "Don't worry too much, he's getting better already."

Chapter 8

Richie sighed as he got out of the car. He had spent the night at home, alone with three teenagers. He missed Sarah in his bed close to him. It was becoming frustrating that one of them always had to stay at the hospial with Daniel. He wouldn't want his son to have to spend the night there alone but he also missed his wife.

On his way back to Daniel's room, he spotted the three Nemo clown fish painted on the walls of Daniel's ward. The hospital had become familiar to all of them.

When he walked into the room that had Daniel's name on the door, a nurse was checking on Daniel. Quietly he went to sit down in one of chairs by Daniel's bed and watched the nurse do her work. As he watched, he could shake the idea that he knew her from somewhere. She looked so familiar.

After the nurse left, he turned to his wife. "Everything okay?"
She smiled softly and nodded. "Yeah, he was coughing again."
Richie reached over and carefully stroked his son's back. "You gotta stop doing that buddy. Enough coughing already."
"It's less than last week." Sarah reminded him.
"True." He agreed. "Which nurse was that? That wasn't Jenny."
"No, it's Megane. She usually has the later shift but I guess they switched this week."
"She looks so familiar. Does she look familiar to you?" He asked confused.
Sarah frowned.
"No?" He really didn't know anymore, she just looked very familiar, like he met her before.
"She does and she should be glad I haven't asked for another nurse yet."
Befuddled, he copied Sarah's expression and frowned too. "Why?"
"You really don't remember her?" Sarah asked, getting agitated about it.
Even more confused, he frowned deeped. "No?"
Sarah scowled. "Try thinking of her on your lap and all over you."
Feeling like he was being accused of something, he put up his defences. "What?! I've never done anything like that since we've been together."
Sarah glared back at him. "Rehab and imagine her with pink hair."

The pieces started to fit together in his mind. A pink haired girl on his lap, trying to seduce him. He also remembered how he had pushed her away when Sarah walked in.

"Remember now?" Sarah asked, her voice on the edge of frustration as she saw Richie's face clear up with the memory.
"Yeah. I remember." He didn't know what to say about it. "Is it a good idea to have her as a nurse for Daniel?"
Sarah shrugged. "I don't know. I guess she's been professional about it and she's very nice to Daniel."
"Yeah but maybe she's just keeping up an act."
"I don't know." Sarah admitted.

Nurse Megane seemed nice but the last time they had met, she seemed nice too. She wasn't sure if she could trust this person enough.

"I'm at least going to talk to the head nurse or someone." Richie said firmly, not wanting to risk anything for his family. They didn't need the press to find out about this. He wasn't going to accuse nurse Megane but at least mention what had happened before to her boss to prevent a repetition of it.
"Yeah, maybe." Sarah almost agreed. "She's very good with Daniel though."
"I know. I've been wondering the whole week if I knew her but she is really nice. Are you sure it's her?" She just seemed so different now.
"I am sure. I remember the woman that tried to seduce my boyfriend."
Richie grinned at her. "Your boyfriend?"
"Well, you were back then."
"Was I? We weren't that exclusive yet."
Sarah glared at him again. "We spent two nights together, I considered you my boyfriend."
Richie waggled his eyebrows in a playful tease. "You're right. I had the same thing on my mind then too."

He wanted to reach in to kiss her, but another coughing spell from Daniel made them both jump up to be at his bedside.

Chapter 7

The hospital room was peacefully quiet, excluding the machines.

Daniel slept in his bed as his daddy slept on the pull out couch only a few feet away.

His mommy had gone home with his brothers and sister.

A whole week both his mommy and his daddy had spent the night at the hospital but last night there was only his mommy and now his daddy was staying with him. At least his little sheep was there, it always was.

Daddy snored.

The new bed he was sleeping in, was almost as soft and comfortable as his bed at home. The room was different. Here there were balloons everywhere but at home were all his stuffed animals that would watch over him. Balloons didn't watch him.

His chest hurt, his lungs didn't fill with air but the mucus was building up.

He coughed loud and hard. Pulling air into his lungs, he coughed again, trying to expell the mucus so he could breathe.

Daddy was by him in a flash and moved him into a sitting position. Daddy's hand was warm on his back as he stroked his back and helped him to sit.

More coughing to expell the mucus from his longs.

Finally able to spit out the slimey mucus, dinner followed. The horrible feeling made him cry as daddy called a nurse.

"It's alright buddy. It's better now."

Daddy was always nice.

He panted but could finally breathe again as the nurse helped daddy with putting on clean pajamas.

Daddy picked him up and cuddled as he walked a few steps. Together they sat down in the reclining chair as the nurse changed the bedding of the crib.

He laid his head on daddy's chest and listened to the soothing sound that was always there.

The beating sound and daddy's warm hand stroking gentle circles on his back, had him back to a gentle sleep in no time.

"Sheets are changed, you can put him back in his crib." The nurse said quietly.
But daddy didn't want to. "I'll hold him for now."

As he slept, he relaxed again, enjoying daddy's warmth as they cuddled. He knew his daddy loved him.
He loved his daddy.

Mommy found them still asleep like that in the morning when she came back. Tonight she'd do the same for him.

Chapter 6

Monday morning marked Daniel's first entire week in the hospital. It had been exactly 7 days since he had been admitted.

First his cough only seemed to get worse but after two days of antibiotics, Daniel started showing improvement, which made Dr. Daniel very happy too. He checked on the baby every day.

"Good morning." Dr. Daniel knocked on the door and walked into the room.

In just one week Daniel's room has changed entirely. His colorful hospital bed now had the Winnie The Pooh bear he had gotten from his Uncle David and his stuffed sheep had made it to the hospital to join him. Besides that, there were lots of balloons that had been sent that decorated the room.

Dr. Daniel noticed immediately. "Looks very nice in here. Must get Daniel's attention a lot."
"Not really." Richie answered, looking down at Daniel in his arms.

At first they were unsure of holding Daniel because of his catheter on his small hand but after trying carefully each time, they figured out how to do it.

"He doesn't look at the colors?" The doctor asked.
"No, he doesn't. He loves music though and he really recognizes it. Whenever I play, he really relaxed, always gets him to sleep." Richie answered as he gently rocked his son in his arms.
Dr. Daniel frowned at him. "He reacts to music but not when you call him?"
Richie shrugged. "Maybe he just doesn't know his name well enough yet."
"Maybe." Dr. Daniel agreed but didn't sound convinced. "Is Sarah here?"
"No. She had an exam, she wanted to skip it but I couldn't let her do that." Richie explained.

The course Sarah was taking was very important to her and he didn't want her to miss the exam. She had been studying hard and even though it was only mid-course exam.

"Alright." Dr. Daniel nodded. "Well, Daniel's doing great. The antibiotics seem to do their job. We'll be doing another test at the end of the week to check his progress."
"That's great." Richie smiled down at his little boy.
"If you have any questions, you can always call me." Dr. Daniel said.
"Will do."

A second later, Richie was alone with his son again.

He held Daniel until he was sleeping, then carefully stood up with him and gently laid him down in his crib again.

From his jeans' pocket, he retrieved his phone and fast dialed Sarah's number. He hoped her exam was over by now and that he wasn't phoning her during it.

Just as he wanted to end the call, Sarah answered it.

"Ah there you are." He said relieved. "How'd it go?"
"Great! Well, I don't get the results til next week but it went really well I think."
"Yeah?" Richie asked.
Unknowing to him, Sarah smiled brightly on the other end of the line. "I could answer every question, I knew all the answers right away."
"That's really good."
"So next week I get my results, along with the next course book and I can do the final in July or August." She said excited.
"You'll do great." He knew she would, without a doubt.
"How's Daniel?"
Richie walked back to the crib to watch him sleep. "Sleeping. He was up for a while so we cuddled and the doctor just came by but then he fell asleep so he's back in his crib."
"That's good. I'll be there soon."
"We'll wait for you." Richie said before saying goodbye and ending their call.

Chapter 5

"Honey?" Richie said quietly because Daniel had finally been able to go to sleep again.
Sarah looked up at him, waiting for him to speak.
"We're going home tonight." He said, almost sounding strict. The decision had been made and Sarah didn't have another choice.
She frowned. "How? Daniel's here, we're not leaving him alone."

Richie sighed and walked over to his wife. He gently wrapped his arms around her.

"We've been here for five days. We need a break. Just tonight." He said quietly. "Mom's coming over to stay the night with Daniel."
"We can't leave him." Sarah said firmly. She wasn't going to leave her small son in the hospital all by himself.
He pulled her closer and stroked his hands over her back. "You're tired honey, our bed at home will give you a better rest than the pull-out couch here. Just for the night. We'll be back after breakfast."

Sarah sighed. The idea of sleeping at home in her own bed did seem intruiging and Richie was right, it would be a lot more comfortable and offer her a better night's sleep than a pull-out couch would.

"We've got three other kids that need a little attention too. Daniel will be asleep all night, he won't notice we were gone and mom will be here to stay with him." Richie tried to explain once again. "Unless you want to ask your mom to come stay with him." Maybe she'd be more comfortable with that.
Sarah nodded softly against him.
"Ava and the boys will probably visit after dinner anyway and when they go home, we just go with them. Daniel's asleep by that time."
Sarah nodded again.
"Okay?"
"Yeah but we have to be back in the morning."
"We will, I promise."

As agreed, they went home with their teenage children while Joan stayed the night with Daniel.

Knowing the plan didn't make it any easier for Sarah. Everyone was ready to go while Richie and her were still standing by Daniel's bed.

Last minute, Richie had developed nerves about leaving his son too.

Watching their son in their hospital bed, he looked just as fragile as he had on Monday. The week had gone well, they both knew that and Daniel was slowly making progress but leaving him wasn't as easy as Richie had thought.

Oddly, a weight was lifted from their shoulders as they got in the car. Daniel was in good care and they finally had a few hours to themselves.

If needed, Daniel was only a fifteen minute drive away.

The evening was spend casually, they watched a movie which was entirely pointless once again because Ava had a lot of things she needed to talk about and often Caleb pitched in too.

It was great to hear their children talking about their lives even though Daniel being in the hospital popped up once in a while.

After the movie, Richie and Sarah finally went upstairs, already thinking of their comfortable bed.

Sarah started undressing as Richie went to the bathroom. After using the toilet, he noticed the large bath in the corning. Deciding against going to bed, he started the hot water. Locating the bath salts and bubble bath, he added both to the hot water before finding Sarah.

"What took you so long?" She asked as he walked back into the room.
"Come one, I prepared a bath for us. Nice to relax."
Sarah didn't need to consider it for a second and joined Richie in the bathroom.

She watched Richie sit down in the bath, he left his legs open for her to sit down. Sarah watched him a little longer before getting in and sitting down betweem his legs and rested back against his chest.
Richie wrapped his arms around her and folded his hands over her belly, then kissed the side of her head. “Warm enough?” He asked.
“Yes, it is. It’s perfect.”
Letting themselves relax, they stayed in the bath until the water turned cold.

"I'll get towels." Richie said, not wanting them to stay in the cold water, it was getting late and if they wanted to be at the hospital early, they needed some sleep.
Sarah sat up a little and Richie was able to get up.
As he returned with a towel around his waist, Sarah was getting out of the bath. He wrapped a large, soft towel around her body and pulled her close, sharing a tender kiss.

Richie guided Sarah back to the bed, pulling the covers back and laying her down. Sarah sunk back in the pillows and Richie lay next to her on his side propped up on his elbow. He moved over her and kissed her again.

Not waiting a second, he reached down and kissed her breast as he slid two fingers inside her. He moved his thumb on her clit and gently rubbed it. He felt Sarah was getting closer to her orgasm and slowed down the rhythm. Sarah moaned, urging him on to go faster again. Richie let go of her breast and moved down to lick her clit. He held her hips when he felt her shudder with her own release. He looked up and licked his lips; Sarah opened her legs in response.

Richie moved between her legs and slowly moved inside her. He placed his hand next to her shoulders for support. He bent his head to kiss her and nuzzled her neck.
Sarah ran her hands up over his chest feeling his chest hair. He quickened the tempo when he felt her shudder again. Sarah felt her release coming but wanted Richie there with her. She was getting there fast and spanked his ass, Richie let out a grunt and they reached their point of release together.

Richie reached down again to kiss her neck, not really able to move and lay on top of her. Chest to chest, still arousing each other. His chest hair tickled her nipples; she reached her arms around him, tying them on his back as to hug him. She felt his heart beat slowing down again and so did hers.
“I love you.” He whispered in her hair.
